How to:

Rehand/Reverse a Screen Door Latch Direction

Before You Begin

This instruction manual is only intended to be used for Prime-Line's Black Latch (model number A-202) and Prime-Line's White Latch (model number A-222); images are of the Black Latch.

Your latch direction may also be faced in a different position from what is shown here. If that's the case, simply reverse the instructions to fit your needs.

For example, instead of Left being on the bottom, Right is on the bottom.

Step 1: Remove the Mounting Screws

Remove the mounting screws and place the Pull with Latch upside down. Make note of the following:

  • Orientation of the spring
  • The 3 black tabs (highlighted on the image)
  • The words Right & Left
  • The latch offset (up or down)

Step 2: Remove the Tab

Position your fingers under the Latch and thumb over the center Black Tab. Press down with your thumb on the Tab while lifting up with your fingers to free the Latch from the Pull Assembly (reference images below).

Step 3: Flip the Latch

Rotate the Latch Assembly clockwise 180 degrees. Place the Spring at the Tip of Latch Assembly pointing Up, making sure to take note of the center hole and on the Latch Assembly, and the Center tab on the latch (inside the red squares in the image to the left).

Step 4: Reassemble the Latch

Align the Spring into the Pull Assembly; note the word Left is now at the top of the assembly. Place the Latch Assembly over the Pull Assembly with the Center Square Cutout over the Center Black Tabs. Press Down to seat the Latch Assembly.

Step 5: Reinstall the Latch

Reinstall the rehanded Pull Assembly back into the door and job is complete.

Your door latch has been rehanded/reversed and is now ready to be used.
